Donating

How can I donate?

Any amount is never too small to help. We do have a monthly scheme that is hassle-free for you to continuously reach out to poor cancer patients under our assistance. You may also contribute in one lump sum or periodically, if this is preferred.  Donations via credit/debit cards, bank account transfers, cheques or cash (via ATMs/bank counters) are most welcome.

If helping financially-challenged cancer patients on a fixed monthly basis is something you would like to do, you will only need to fill the MAKNA Donation Form and thereafter, email it to makna@makna.org.my. You may also post it to MAKNA, BG03A & 05, Ground Floor, Megan Ambassy, No. 225, Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur.

How does my donation make a difference?

Every year, on the average, 10,000 to 11,000 patients receive financial assistance from MAKNA because of the continuous support from people like you. Since our inception, we have managed to assist almost 450,000 cancer cases with the necessary help needed, whether financially, medically or equipment-wise, Click here for more information.

Why is regular giving important?

Our commitment towards helping patients starts from the point their application for assistance to MAKNA is approved and this will continue for the rest of their treatment duration at their government hospital of choice. Continued and consistent contribution from you means MAKNA is able to ensure patients’ access to much needed treatment is not cut off. If certain medical equipment, device and ancillary items are costly but needed as part of the treatment, we will also need to fulfil this as part of our commitment to these patients. Over the years, costs of medicine, equipment and treatment have been increasing and without a steady stream of contributions, we will be hard pressed to maintain the many services that are provided regularly to poor cancer patients as well as to the public.

For the past many years, MAKNA has not neglected communities in the far reaches of the country, whether in Peninsular or East Malaysia, where local folks have been consistently exposed to cancer education via our exhibitions and talks to increase their understanding of the disease. In our quest to be on the forefront of cancer research, we have also funded promising projects, all in the name of increasing the hope of a cure or improved treatment. Obviously, without ready and constant support from our well-wishers, supporters and donors, our ability to meet our commitments and help cancer patients will be affected.

I make a regular donation to MAKNA. How can I change the amount I donate?

You may request for aMy Pledge against Cancer” form and once completed, email it to  makna@makna.org.my.  Otherwise, please call us at +603-2162 9178 and we will be happy to assist you.

How do I cancel my donation to MAKNA?

If at any point and for any reason you’d like to cancel your monthly commitment, you may call +603-2162 9178 and speak to our Customer Service Officer. However, on an off-chance you would still like to continue donating in a lesser or reduced amount, our officer will also assist you with this request.

Personal Data Protection Notice

PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION NOTICE
Dear donors,

This Personal Data Protection Notice (“PDP Notice”) is issued to all donors of MAKNA (Majlis Kanser Nasional / National Cancer Council) pursuant to the statutory requirements of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (“PDPA”).

During your course of dealings with us, we and our programme partners will collect, use and process your personal data for purposes, including but not limited to, process your pledge donor application form and your donation, communicate with you, respond to your enquiries or complaints, provide you with information and/or updates on the Programme and/or services offered by MAKNA, carry out internal administrative work, summary reporting, deliver important notices in relation to any changes of our terms or conditions which may affect you, and for us to comply with any legal or regulatory requirements relating to our activities under the requirements of any laws, regulations, by-laws, guidelines, directions or any court order application to us (collectively referred to as “Purposes”).

Your personal data provided to us or obtained by us shall be kept confidential by us. However, it may be necessary for us to disclose and transfer your personal data to parties such as our programme partners, Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri, your credit card issuing bank (for credit/charge card authorisation) or the bank which you have chosen (for autodebit authorisation), within or outside Malaysia, and third party companies, entities or service providers engaged by us to perform certain services on our behalf. We shall also disclose and transfer your personal data to any relevant statutory bodies, regulatory bodies, local authorities and/or other governmental authorities where required, and any such person to whom we are required to do so pursuant to a direction or order of such statutory bodies, regulatory bodies, local authorities and/or other governmental authorities.

It is necessary for us and our programme partners to collect and process your personal data. If you do not provide us and our programme partners with your personal data, or do not consent to this PDP Notice, we and our programme partners will not be able to effectively provide services to you or process your personal data for any of the Purposes, if at all.

We are committed to ensuring that your personal data is stored securely. Any personal data provided by you to us shall be retained by us for as long as the fulfilment of the Purposes is required, or if such retention is necessary pursuant to any legal, regulatory or accounting requirements. You have the right to request for access to, or request for rectification or correction of your personal data, or limit the processing and use of your personal data, as the case may be, subject to the exceptions and restrictions as may be contained under the applicable law.

Please note that we have the right to refuse your request to access and/or make any correction to your personal data to the extent permitted under the applicable law.

By providing your personal data to us, you consent to us and our programme partners processing your personal data in accordance with this PDP Notice, and you confirm that all personal data provided by you is accurate and complete, and that none of it is misleading or out of date. You will promptly update us in the event of any change to your personal data.

If we do not receive any response from you on the above within 30 days from the date of this letter, you shall be deemed to have no objection and therefore consent to us processing your personal data.

In respect of “Donation on Behalf”, you confirm that you have explained to the nominee that his personal data will be provided to, and processed by, us and our programme partners and you represent and warrant that you have obtained his consent to the processing (including disclosure and transfer) of his personal data in accordance with this PDP Notice.

We reserve the right to update and amend this PDP Notice from time to time without prior notice to you. If we amend this PDP Notice, the amendment will only apply to personal data collected after we have posted the revised PDP Notice.
In accordance with Section 7(3) of the PDPA, this PDP Notice is issued in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. In the event of any inconsistencies or discrepancies between the English version and the Bahasa Malaysia version, the English version shall prevail.

Volunteering

Why should I become a volunteer?

Becoming a volunteer with MAKNA is one of the best ways you can help cancer patients who are in need of assistance. The simple act of giving freely of your time and energy is a feel-good experience you will gain as one of the benefits of volunteering. The willingness to share will bring you contentment no words can describe.

How can I volunteer?

Volunteering means providing your service, voluntarily. There are many areas within MAKNA itself which may appeal to you as a volunteer. Basically, helping MAKNA to execute some of its programmes, engaging with patients, fundraising, and also organising projects on your own are just some of the more common activities available for interested volunteers’ participation. Volunteers may also sign up for our internship programme. To become a volunteer, all you need to do is to fill the Volunteer Form and submit it to makna@makna.org.my. We will reply to you in due time.

Where is Makna’s internship based?

Internships with MAKNA take place at our office at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Please contact us if you are interested to pursue this further.

When does MAKNA recruit for interns?

All year round, and whenever there is a specific need.

Do I get recognised for my voluntary work?

We give out special testimonials or certificates as and when requested. Other types of recognitions are in the form of awards for those who are deemed to have excelled in providing services to cancer patients and the community. Also, MAKNA’s Volunteers Appreciation Day is held at the end of the year to recognise the efforts and commitment of volunteers.
