August 12, 2024MAKNA’s Klimb Pinnacles to Kinabalu aims to conquer cancer through an extraordinary expedition
Twenty climbers, including two cancer survivors, are embarking on an extraordinary journey to conquer Mulu Pinnacles, Sarawak and Mount Kinabalu, Sabah. This inspiring initiative called Klimb Pinnacles to Kinabalu, aims to raise funds and awareness for underprivileged cancer patients in Malaysia.
The event was officiated by Mr Sih Hua Tong, Commission Member of Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara, today at Plaza Merdeka marking the beginning of the fundraising campaign. Klimb Pinnacles to Kinabalu is a collaboration between Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA) and Sukarelawan Jalanan Sarawak (SJS), with generous support from Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Borsarmulu Park Management Sdn Bhd.
This is the ninth edition of the MAKNA Klimb series since its inception in 2013. The climber’s ascent of Mulu Pinnacles will take a three-day journey, scheduled on August 16 to 18, 2024, while the climb to Mount Kinabalu is tentatively scheduled for October 1 to 4, 2024, subject to favourable conditions.
“Embarking on this incredible journey, often involves teamwork and camaraderie, fostering a sense of community among climbers and supporters. It shows solidarity with cancer patients and their families, letting them know they are not alone in their fight. This climb also symbolises the challenges and obstacles faced by cancer patients during their treatment journeys. It serves as a powerful metaphor for overcoming adversity and pushing through difficulties. It’s a way to honour their courage.” said Vemanna Appannah, Deputy General Manager of MAKNA.
The public is encouraged to support this remarkable effort by donating to the “Klimb Pinnacles to Kinabalu” campaign at their SimplyGiving page (https://www.simplygiving.com/event/kptk2024). Every donation, big or small, will make a significant difference in the lives of those battling cancer.
MAKNA would also like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Sarawak Forestry Corporation, Borsarmulu Park Management Sdn Bhd, BEE Entertainment Sdn Bhd, Nicko Jeep Manufacture Sdn Bhd, and all the individuals who have contributed to making this project a success.
