The National Cancer Council of Malaysia (MAKNA) is thrilled to announce the winners of its prestigious MAKNA Cancer Research Award (MCRA) for 2023. This annual award recognizes and empowers the brilliant minds of young Malaysian researchers dedicated to making strides in cancer understanding and treatment.
This year, MAKNA is proud to bestow the MCRA upon three exceptional individuals whose research holds immense potential to improve the lives of cancer patients:
- Dr. Ainol Haniza Kherul Anuwar from Universiti Malaya, whose project titled “Financial Burden and Quality of Life among Head and Neck Cancer Patients Undergoing Supportive Care after Completion of Cancer Therapy” delves into understanding the financial and quality of life challenges faced by patients post-treatment.
- Dr. Norfarazieda Hassan from Universiti Sains Malaysia, whose research project titled “Harnessing the Natural Killer (NK) Cells for Anti-Tumour Adoptive Immunotherapy in Breast Cancer” explores the exciting potential of natural killer cells as a novel treatment approach for breast cancer.
- Dr. Lim Wei Meng from Monash University Malaysia, whose project titled “Targeting Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes Resistant Pancreatic Cancer using Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Inhibitors” investigates innovative strategies to overcome resistance to treatment in pancreatic cancer.
The total award amount for MCRA 2023 is RM 149,450, providing each researcher with crucial funding to support their valuable work.
MAKNA extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and applauds their unwavering dedication to advancing cancer research. The council remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting young researchers as they strive for innovative solutions in the fight against this complex disease.
