About us

Message from the President’s Desk

Dato' Mohd Farid Ariffin

I started MAKNA then with a goal and a vision to never let the human spirit down. As my late son suffered, my will to help others became stronger. If I can plant a seed of hope in someone, I know it will bloom and spread. Now, the will to fight and live has grown beyond my expectations, shared by so many of us and there is so much more to achieve. We need to expand our giving base, increase our efforts and push boundaries to further serve the underserved. Our stories, our reach, our experiences and our track record show that cancer shall never have the last word. Our spirit shall never be broken, with His grace.

I remain,
Dato’ Mohd Farid Ariffin

The Periwinkle

Periwinkle flower or Kemunting Cina is our official logo. Periwinkle is synonymous with cancer treatment as it produces 2 potent alkaloids used in Chemotherapy. The logo symbolizes our effort in supporting cancer patients throughout their journey towards recovery.

MAKNA stands for Majlis Kanser Nasional. The word MAKNA translates as ‘meaning’ in Malay. It aptly conveys our spirit and aspirations as an organization that strives to create a meaningful impact. This is further expressed in our tagline "A Meaning to Life".

Milestone in history

As time went by, MAKNA became more recognized, successful and the number of cancer patients receiving assistance increased significantly.

In order to further solidify its effort in the fight against cancer, MAKNA created several other programs and services. These various programs and services ensured a more holistic approach is taken. The initiatives encompass financial assistance, emotional support, education, awareness including research projects.

By doing this, MAKNA is able to encourage every individual to join the cause and create a fabric of society that can fight cancer together as one.

Reaching new heights with effective affiliations

Our supporters and collaborators together knit a future that ensures MAKNA’s continuity and sustainability. In turn this paves the path for MAKNA to bring meaningful change and impact on how financially-challenged cancer patients are assisted in the country.
We sincerely thank you for your commitment and belief in our cause.
