The launching of the newest Majlis Kanser Nasional’s (MAKNA) Halfway House, which was officiated by the Deputy Medical Director of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Dr Siti Salmy Binti Mat Nor, will facilitate the journey of cancer patients to get treatment, especially paediatric cancer patients. The ceremony was also attended by the Assistant Director of the Terengganu State Health Department, Dr Noor Afifi bin Ismail.
Named Vila Terengan, the house provides free short-term accommodation for cancer patients and their carers who seek treatment at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah. With a strategic location and close to the hospital, patients will have easy access to chemotherapy treatment.
“We are thrilled to unveil Villa Terengan which is our eighth halfway house across Malaysia,” said Hjh Farahida Mohd Farid, General Manager of MAKNA. “MAKNA Halfway House will meet the needs of many paediatric cancer patients who live far from the hospital while providing a comfortable environment and helping them to focus on treatment”.
Vila Terengan is equipped with 5 rooms and 7 beds that can accommodate 15 visitors at a time. Basic facilities such as a kitchen, television and air conditioning are also provided to ensure that patients can stay comfortably after undergoing treatment in the hospital.
As of 2023, MAKNA Halfway House across Malaysia has accommodated a total of 2,305 cancer patients.
The opening ceremony also commemorates a significant milestone for MAKNA as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. MAKNA is committed in its efforts to continue helping and empowering underprivileged cancer patients in Malaysia.
